One flew over the cuckoo's nest

This film/book focuses on a lot of different themes. One that we can used for our piece is the wrongful diagnosis of insanity. In the film the protagonist is deemed insane when he is very much so sane. This contributes to our piece because not only do we focus on what society deems wrong and 'crazy' but also how different people who have been isolated will differ from societies norms.
In addition they all dress the same as they are not only in a mental institution but also because a big pat of the majority of them have 'given up', this can be used in our piece to influence the dress sense and also to allow our piece to have accuracy as it is based on events.

Are you evil?

ARE YOU EVIL?

What Is The Actual Meaning Of Evil?
  • profoundly immoral and wicked.

Our play will focus on evil, not only the meaning of the word but the question: can people be born evil? If their was no society or rules, what would you do?

Ideas to add into the play
-  classical music
- physical theatre - experimental
- A lot if MUSIC: make sure music is the right cues
- A epic dark scene: make the audience scared and messed up
- A clear journey  throughout the performance: we don't want to be stuck in a box
- counseling - time in the play where things are repeated e.g. a bell rings , a clock that rings,
- A area where there is no one else and people are watching us and we are the worst of the worst. we can still escape but people are constantly watching us. All the most messed up people in world place and its all about WHAT WILL WE DO? HOW FAR WILL YOU GO?
- There will be camera watching us but we don't know who or where they are. we could use lights to show morning and night etc,

Stimulus

Our piece will focus on the conflict between the human innate impulse towards savagery and evil and the rules society has created to contain and minimize it. Themes like being contained, with no adults and no civilisations and how that can effect people in the long term.
The lord of the flies stimulus supports this because it also focuses on innate savagery and the loss of childrens innocence. I think that this is a very interesting topic to explore: Can one be born evil?

Quotes Of Inspiration:

  • "there isn't anyone to help you, only me and i'm the beast"
  • “What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages?”
  • “Which is better--to have laws and agree, or to hunt and kill?”
  • “Maybe," he said hesitantly, "maybe there is a beast." [...] "What I mean is, maybe it's only us.”
